Roseacre Primary Academy Extension
Overview
Twelve existing small classrooms have been remodelled and refurbished to create eight larger teaching areas.
External works included the construction of storage areas and associated landscaping.
Key Challenges
Regular meetings were held with the school to ensure minimum disruption and inconvenience was caused for the duration of the project.
The site was very confined site with restricted access. Safety was a very high priority on site and effective safety procedures were put into place.
Other challenges included access, as the new build was constructed in the existing school courtyard.
The new structure was also higher than the existing build which meant getting the new build watertight was complex.
Added Value
After the discovery of asbestos in the roof voids Eric Wright Special Projects adjusted the programme accordingly to a phased programme to prevent any delay to the contract.
The site team collected donations for a local foodbank and a sandpit was donated to a local nursery.
The site manager did a number of talks with the schools children and site visits with teachers to view the new facilities.
87% of labour on this site was from local area and local suppliers and sub-contractors were employed.
