Overview

The works were to all areas of the existing school. The redevelopment comprised site preparation, service infrastructure works and refurbishment of all internal areas of the school and also new extensions with associated new vehicular access from Wilkinson Avenue, parking, and landscaping.

A new curved frontage has given the school a new identity and a welcoming approach with a feature canopy leading to the main entrance. The majority of existing spaces have been transformed making classrooms larger and creating a more efficient use of space.

The project was completed 3rd September 2018 and was handed over to the school snag free.

Key Challenges

A lot of procedures were put into place to create fast, smooth running of the project. One main key challenge within the project was working in an around a live special needs school environment. Eric Wright Special Projects had to juggle timings and working on certain areas carefully to avoid disturbance to a lot of the student’s routine. EWSP carried out the works in six separate phases in order to not create any disturbance.

EWSP had regular meetings with the school in order to create minimal disruption and inconvenience was caused for the duration of the project.

Added Value

Eric Wright Special Projects used value engineering exercises throughout the build to ensure the maximum value for money for the client.

As on all our projects, safety was a priority, with strong policies and procedures in place for our site team, including training on appropriate steps to protect vulnerable road users around the site.

We also added value through the use of our local supply chain, minimising the projects impact on the environment and promoting opportunities to local companies and workers.
