Derian House Donation Centre
Overview
The site was cleared to make way for a new two-storey Donation Sorting Centre which includes a number of offices, meeting rooms and stores.
The ground floor contains a space for visitors to drop off donations and a storage area to replace the garage. The first floor contains offices for current fundraising and admin staff, so their existing offices can be converted into private space for families staying on site, with children receiving end of life care.
The project also includes a ground floor staff area including kitchen facilities with sliding folding doors leading out to the patio space.
External works include a new bin storage area to the rear of the building and additional car parking spaces.
Key Challenges
This new build scheme was carried out in a sensitive location adjacent to the existing operational hospice.
The team ensured minimal disruption and maintained full access for the hospice for the duration of the works.
Added Value
Eric Wright Special Projects worked to maintain a friendly, welcoming environment for the children staying at the hospice. The site manager arranged for up to 5 people from the site / per day to order food from the hospice canteen to contribute funds.
Both the site team and the supply chain have supported various fund raising events for the benefit of the hospice.
Other goodwill gestures have been made in the form of remedial works to the existing building fabric and maintenance work to the surrounding landscape features.
