Standish Leisure Hub, Wigan
Overview
Standish Leisure Hub is a new two-storey community leisure facility featuring a 70-station gym, a 100 square metre studio, a 3G football pitch and a multi-use games area for tennis, netball and basketball.
This scheme is based on the former Standish golf course site and is now managed by Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles on behalf of Wigan Council.
With the latest technology equipment and My Wellness tracking, the council are committed to getting more residents in the area active and healthy.

Key Challenges
Grey crested newts were found within the site boundary and EWC implemented safety precaution measures to ensure they were not disturbed.
The site location was next to a large housing development and EWC have ensured regular liaison and coordination with the other contractors.
Added Value
During this scheme, Eric Wright Construction incorporated 87% local workforce, one apprentice from a local college and provided two new work opportunities.
Regular newsletters, posters and community engagement were used to inform the public of any potential disruptive activities as well as updates on the scheme.
