New Carlisle Care Home to Officially Open Next Week

Cumbria County Council are holding an official opening event on Monday 1st July 2019 for their new state of the art residential care home in Carlisle; Burnrigg Court.  The event will take place between 2.30pm and 4pm at the home, which is located in the Morton district of Carlisle.

The event will be a celebration for residents, families and staff of the home, who are looking forward to enjoying music from local Carlisle Ukulele Club and High Tea made by the home cooks.  As part of this opening event, Cumbria County Council’s Chairman Cllr Christine Bowditch will be cutting the ribbon and declaring the home officially open.  Cumbria County Council’s Leader Cllr Stewart Young and Cllr Patricia Bell Cabinet Member for Health and Care Services will also be joining in the celebrations, alongside local councillors.

Cumbria County Council have invested £6m in this fantastic project, which provides a beautiful setting for the delivery of modern, person centred care to older adults and residents with complex care needs.

Burnrigg Court is one of two new Cumbria Care residential homes completed in 2019, the other home is The Gables in Whitehaven.  Both new homes provide modern quality care for older adults, especially those who need to be supported with dementia and complex care needs.  Residents moved into Burnrigg Court in May 2019 and are now happily settled into their new modern accommodation.  Cumbria County Council have invested in each 60 bed residential home for older people in Carlisle and Whitehaven areas.  Both homes were built by Eric Wright Construction Ltd on behalf of Cumbria County Council.

Cllr Patricia Bell Cabinet Member for Health and Care Services said: “Now everyone is settled into their new, state-of-the-art residence, it’s nice that we can mark the occasion with an official opening celebration.

“Burnrigg Court provides a wonderful home for residents to live and incorporates beautiful spaces into the building design to meet their needs.  Residents in ground-floor bedrooms can access the gardens, landscaped paths and planting areas safely and easily direct from their rooms, whilst first floor residents have access to an external balcony and communal lounge, with views over the local area, as well as lift access to downstairs.

“The facility is dementia-friendly, spacious, light and airy, with modern standards, high-spec technology and state-of-the-art equipment.  Burnrigg Court has been a great example of excellent team work between Cumbria County Council’s Capital Programme Team, Cumbria Care Team and the contractors Eric Wright Construction Ltd.  They have created a setting to meet the needs of the residents, the staff and the demands of the service area to create a fantastic facility for the local community.”
