Marine Lake Health and Wellbeing Centre opens its doors to the public

Eric Wright Construction has delivered a multi-million pound health and wellbeing facility for the community of West Kirkby in Wirral, just twelve months after work started on site.

Marine Lake Health and Wellbeing Centre has been delivered in partnership by Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust (WCHC), Marine Lake and Estuary Medical Practice and Age UK Wirral. It brings together primary and community care in one place, as well as access to specialist health and care services. It is the latest regional healthcare facility delivered by Eric Wright’s specialist project team which has a long track record of supporting partners across the health and care sector.

The 2,037sq m state of the art centre spans three floors and is an important investment in community-based healthcare. It brings many benefits for patients, residents and the wider community, including the relocation of Marine Lake Medical Practice and Estuary Medical Practice which will allow extended hours and increased capacity and access to specialist health and care services. There is also a new community space led by Age UK Wirral, including a café.

A key feature of the centre is the creation of a community wellbeing garden which features a range of plants and places for local people to grow their own vegetables, as well as a multiple use space for relaxing or use as an outdoor classroom for local primary school pupils.

Commenting on the successful completion and handover Nick Galvin, project manager for Eric Wright Construction said: “To have delivered this superb facility in little over twelve months is testament to the high level of collaboration and hard work across entire project team. We have used local labour and relied on local suppliers wherever possible. It was quite a challenging site due to the confined space and proximity to residential properties but we’re really proud to see Marine Lake open and functioning so soon after starting work.”

During the build programme Eric Wright supported Team WCHC Awards 2022 and have recently also assisted West Kirby in Bloom with the creation of plant beds for this year’s display.

Speaking on behalf of the partnership Michael Brown, Chairman (WCHC), said: “It is fantastic to see Marine Lake Health and Wellbeing Centre now open, so soon after Eric Wright Construction started on site. This represents a fundamental investment in local health and care and will transform how people receive care closer to home. It marks a new chapter for the people of West Kirby and will significantly improve the way in which services are delivered and I’d like to thank all of the people who have worked so hard in the past year to deliver this superb facility.”

The project team for Marine Lake Health and Wellbeing Centre included: Gilling Dod Architects; Bradshaw, Gass & Hope Structural Engineers; West Lancashire Group as M&E Designers & contractor; Hoare Lea Fire Engineers and Ball & Berry Building Control.
