Forton Donation is Blooming Marvellous

Forton Village, near Garstang, is blossoming thanks to a kind donation by a Preston-based residential developer and the hard work of Forton Scout Group (Beavers and Cubs).

Applethwaite Homes, part of the Eric Wright Group, is currently developing the ‘Bowland Gardens’ scheme located in the village and has donated £500 to Forton Scout Group’s annual plant sale, on the basis that the plants would be used to further improve the village’s landscaping.

The scout group, which includes children aged 6 to 10, planted shrubs and flowers around the village with help from Colin Hetherington (Applethwaite Homes) and John Rush (Eric Wright Special Projects), the company building the properties for Applethwaite Homes at Bowland Gardens.

The three-acre development, one of six Applethwaite schemes across Cumbria and Lancashire, is situated on the site of a former nursery. It will comprise 22 detached family homes, two bungalows and three properties to be offered on a shared ownership basis.

Colin Hetherington, Director of Applethwaite Homes, said: “Forton is an attractive location and we were keen to make a positive contribution to both the scout group and the village.

“The Eric Wright Group is committed to improving the communities in which it operates and we are delighted that our donation has provided the opportunity for local children to help further improve the village environment.”

Andy Baker, assistant cub leader of Forton Scout Group, said: “We have for a number of years raised funds through the sale of bedding plants, through Laburnum Nursery, to people and businesses in the local area.

“The very generous donation this year by Applethwaite Homes will not only benefit Forton Village but will also provide valuable funds to enable the group to continue to provide exciting and enjoyable opportunities for the children involved in scouting.”

The show home at Bowland Gardens is expected to be open by early September. Further information on the development can be found at www.applethwaite-homes.co.uk
