Eric Wright Construction has completed work on the Energy Coast University Technical College (UTC) on Lillyhall Industrial Estate in Workington.
Commissioned through the Department for Education’s (DfE) low value framework, the facilities include new technical and engineering workshops, meeting rooms, an SEN resource base, replacement sports pitch and a new changing pavilion.
Designed by architects Cassidy and Ashton and Civil & Structural Engineer’s Curtins, the works also included the design and construction of a new pedestrian crossing to connect the College’s two primary sites.
Commenting on the completion of the project James Eager, director for Eric Wright Construction said: “It is great to have delivered these superb new facilities, allowing the college and its staff to obtain the necessary training in advance of the new Autumn term. We have enjoyed a long relationship with the College, having originally built the facility back in 2013, and it is good to see continued investment and improvement in such an important local education establishment.
“The UTC provides students with academic, practical and technical education and we were able to offer them the opportunity to provide design input during the client engagement stage and support them with mock interviews and other practical experiences during the course of the works.”
Energy Coast UTC Principal Cherry Tingle said: “We are absolutely delighted that our long awaited, world-class, workshop and sports facilities will be open and available for students to use.”

Since being appointment to the DfE framework in 2017 Eric Wright’s construction team has delivered numerous education facilities and improvements across the North West including: Phases 1-3, Kings Leadership Academy Temporary Facility in Bolton; Preston Muslim Girls School; Fairfield Road Primary School in Manchester; St John’s Primary in Stockport and Queen Elizabeth Studio School in Kirkby Lonsdale.
