Supporting the local community
In partnership with local organisations and our supply chain, we create apprenticeships, training and work opportunities on all of our projects. Our site management teams also go the extra mile as they have raised thousands for local charities through marathons, cycle rides and many other events.
During construction of schools for Blackpool Council, we worked with Build Up, a successful training programme run by Blackpool and the Fylde College in partnership with Jobcentre Plus and local employers. Through Build Up and our supply chain, we helped to place 91 local people into employment on our construction sites. We partnered again with Build Up for the award winning Blackpool Council Offices project, part of the wider Talbot Gateway scheme. We were delighted to celebrate creation of the 100th job in collaboration with the other three Gateway contractors.
On the Energy Coast UTC project in Workington, Cumbria we participated in a shared apprenticeship scheme with a local Apprenticeship Training Agency. Our site management team also worked with the UTC Trust and local college to agree a student enrichment programme, which included work experience placements, careers talks, construction site tours and a visit to a structural steel manufacturer.
Our site team on the Stoke PFI extra care project organised a collection for the local food bank, donated to Stoke’s Donna Louise Children’s Hospice and raised funds for the Christie charity through completing the long Las Cymru a 250 mile charity ride.
