UCLan, Whitendale Halls, Preston
Overview
Eric Wright Special Projects was the appointed contractor on the refurbishment of Whitendale Halls, student accommodation, in Preston for the University of Central Lancashire.
The works comprised of internal demolition, removal of existing floor coverings, reconfiguration of mechanical and electrical, new stud partitions, new flooring and decoration.
This included moving and relocating cylinder into the kitchen from the service cupboard, and installing a new WC and wash hand basin into the service cupboard. EWSP then removed the WC, installed a shower cubicle and support wall, then knocked through the kitchen to bedroom in order to form new lounge area.
Key Challenges
Eric Wright Special Projects combatted some key challenges at Whitendale Halls efficiently and professionally. Planning and logistics were carefully considered to ensure minimal disruption for local residents and other students and to maintain the safety of the site team, students and staff. Regular meetings were made to ensure minimum inconvenience for the duration of the project.
Eric Wright Special Projects deal with their own aftercare. There were a few defects regarding the lights and sensors. These were challenges EWSP had to meet quickly and responsibly in order to meet the client’s demands.
Added Value
As on all our projects, safety was a priority, with strong policies and procedures in place for our site team, including training on appropriate steps to protect vulnerable road users around the site.
Eric Wright Special Projects used value engineering exercises throughout the build to ensure the maximum value for money for the client.
We also added value through the use of our local supply chain, minimising the projects impact on the environment and promoting opportunities to local companies and workers.
