Overview

The new health centre on the demolished Albion Mill site in Water Street, Great Harwood comprises a purpose-built facility that integrates and enhances a range of health services.

Facilities are located within a modern, flexible, accessible, high-quality environment, designed to meet patient and service providers’ needs.

The centre houses the Royle Practice, Great Harwood Medical Group, Dr Valluri’s Practice (Branch), podiatry, speech and language therapy, treatment rooms, multi-use consultation rooms, examinations rooms and a pharmacy.

The new, accessible, two storey health centre is sympathetic to Great Harwood’s market town style and provides an improved patient experience with DDA compliant facilities.

Soft and hard landscaping create a safe, attractive outdoor public space for visitors and passers-by, making it welcoming and in keeping with the surroundings. Upon completion of the new building, existing services were relocated to enable the old health centre to be demolished.

Key Challenges

The site was based adjacent to the existing health centre and only accessible through a residential area, therefore planning, logistics and regular communication was essential.

The ground conditions were poor with a large amount of peat which required digging out and replacing before works could commence.

The project was completed on time within a short programme period.

Added Value

We were able to add value to this project by working with the client to deliver a state-of-the-art facility within a restricted budget.

Client Feedback

“The health centre will have a great impact on the community, as services which were not previously provided locally are now available. Attractive landscaping and outdoor public space for visitors and passers-by make this facility welcoming and in-keeping with the surroundings and Great Harwood’s market-town style.”
