Key Challenges
With a city centre location, Edward Street has presented the construction team with logistical challenges of coordinating material deliveries and on-site sub- contract trades.
The façade is primarily constructed from pre-cast concrete panels with the largest weighing upwards of eight tonnes installed over a period of 14 weeks. With just about enough space to unload 1 vehicle at a time within the confines of our site boundaries the construction team has planned meticulously using a system of at the point of install deliveries seeing the successful completion of the façade works on time.
Whilst excavating the site, a known historical windmill dating back to the 1700s was uncovered, the team worked with the archaeologists whilst they cleaned and surveyed the structure to update historical records.
Added Value
Early engagement with our supply chain enabled the offering of savings for items of mechanical equipment using alternative manufacturers, further significant savings were achieved reaching a design solution for the basement tanking suitable for the specified category of basement.
The team have also added value to the local community through providing employment opportunities with a target of 75% local workforce. Clothing and food have been collected and donated to a local homeless hostel called the Wellspring Centre throughout the project duration.
