Overview

The fantastic Witton Park Arena includes an indoor 60m warm up/training track (6 lane), new changing facilities, a covered outdoor Spectator Terracing and a club room.

It will be used by Blackburn Harriers Athletics Club as a training facility year round, coaching 100s of aspiring young athletes.

The new arena also has a 45 station Fitness Suite with views across the park, changing rooms and a fitness studio for spinning and exercise classes.

The project also includes refurbishment to the existing track and amendments to track layout, relocation of the pole vault and construction of perimeter fencing.

Key Challenges

A key challenge of this scheme was working within a busy national trust park segregated from the public and ensuring minimum disruption and safety for the general public.

Throughout the duration of the build we maintained athletics facilities and other activities without disruption to council programme.

Added Value

The construction team made a number of goodwill gestures such as undertaking the refurbishment of a rest room belonging to Myerscough College.

Additionally, in collaboration with Witton Park, a community drawing / poster competition took place with prizes awarded to the winning children.

The site team also made contact with a local primary school and facilitated a Health & Safety talk.

The site also made good use of local labour and suppliers.

Client Feedback

“ “This is a first class athletics and fitness facility in a spectacular setting within Witton Park. The facilities are amazing and I would like to thank the Harriers for their help in creating a facility which will transform athletics in the borough. The interest in the arena has been fantastic, please feel free to come along and have a look round.””
