Eric Wright Group Steps up to Support Rosemere’s Cross Bay Walk

Eric Wright Group is to sponsor this year’s 10th annual Rosemere Cancer Foundation Cross Bay Walk.

Over the last decade, the eight-mile, dog-friendly trek across the sands of Morecambe Bay from Arnside to Kents Bank has raised around £70,000 to support the charity’s work to bring world-class cancer treatments and services to cancer patients across South Cumbria and Lancashire.

Its first Cross Bay Walk had just 75 participants but last year, 500 people of all ages took part. For this year’s walk, on Saturday 9th June 2018, Rosemere Cancer Foundation has been allocated 350 places, applications for which are now open online at Rosemere Cross Bay Walk or by telephoning 01772 522913. Places cost £10 per person.

Cathy Skidmore, Rosemere Cancer Foundation’s trust and corporate fundraising manager, said: “This is an iconic walk led by Queen’s Guide Cederic Robinson MBE that makes for a great day out. If you have never done it before, I urge you to join us. You’ll not be disappointed.

“This year, we’re immensely grateful to Eric Wright Group for sponsoring the walk. Its sponsorship means that our staging costs are covered so that every penny from walk entry fees and any money raised by individual walkers will go directly to funding the trio of projects making up our 20 Years Anniversary Appeal.”

These projects include bringing the most advanced robotic surgical system on the market to Rosemere Cancer Centre, South Cumbria and Lancashire’s regional specialist cancer treatment centre at the Royal Preston Hospital, which opened 20 years ago. It makes the centre the first in whole of the North of England and only one of three centres in the entire country to have such a piece of kit.

Jeremy Hartley, managing director of Eric Wright Group, said: “We are delighted to be involved in Rosemere Cancer Foundation’s Cross Bay Walk.  As a local company, we are well aware of Rosemere Cancer Centre at which a number of our staff and family members have been treated. It is our pleasure to support Rosemere Cancer Foundation and the work it does to support not only the centre but all our region’s hospital cancer units and cancer patients.”

As well as backing 2018’s Cross Bay Walk, the company is also sponsoring Rosemere Cancer Foundation’s Walk in the Dark on the night of Saturday 28th April 2018.  Appropriately, Eric Wright Group’s housing division, Applethwaite Homes, kindly hosted Rosemere Cancer Foundation for the photo shoot at its Blenkett View development of 16 homes in Allithwaite on the outskirts of Grange-over-Sands, only a short distance from the finish at Kents Bank.

Walk in the Dark also celebrates its 10th anniversary. This walk follows an 11-mile route along the A6 to Rosemere Cancer Centre, where finishers are rewarded with hot tea and bacon barms. Over the last decade, Walk in the Dark has contributed almost £250,000 to the charity’s funds. Entry is £10 or free for under-12s with registration also open either online or by telephone.

Other walks Rosemere Cancer Foundation has planned for the year are its annual five-mile, family fun Walk the Lights along Blackpool Promenade’s Illuminations. It takes place on the evening of Friday, 5th October, while later that month, it has organised an expedition to the Far East for a Great Wall of China Trek (17th to 25th October).

In addition to its projects at Rosemere Cancer Centre, which provides all South Cumbria and Lancashire’s radiotherapy treatment as well as other specialist care, Rosemere Cancer Foundation supports work to improve treatment and services at another eight hospitals across the two counties that look after cancer patients, including Westmorland General Hospital, Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Furness General Hospital.
