Nikal Submits Plans for Phase 1 of Altair

Nikal has submitted a detailed planning application for the first phase of ‘Altair’; it’s highly anticipated £70 million, 4.5 acre mixed-use scheme in Altrincham Town Centre.

Plans for phase one include the construction of an iconic contemporary building marking the gateway to Altair and the town centre on Moss Lane, opposite the Tesco superstore. The building will provide 59 high quality one and two bedroom apartments with leisure retail space on the lower floors.

Integrated into the scheme is a new grand entrance for the ice rink and new landscaped public realm to include outside seating for a new café.

Nikal will be using ‘Hillcrest Homes’ it’s award winning homebuilder brand to deliver the building alongside main contractor, Eric Wright Construction. Work is scheduled to start in Spring 2016.

In this first phase, Hillcrest will be offering 36 one bedroom and 23 two bedroom apartments with a high specification designed by acclaimed Manchester practice Stephenson Studio and Simpson Haugh Architects.

Further phases of construction are planned for Altair, which will bring additional new homes plus high quality contemporary spaces suitable for bars, restaurants and retail outlets and Grade A office accommodation.

The development will be linked directly to the new tram, bus and train Transport Interchange via a new public walkway making it easily accessible to those travelling across the Greater Manchester and Trafford areas.

Outline planning for Altair was granted in early 2014 with Nikal working in partnership with Trafford Council and Altrincham Forward to develop the concept for the scheme.  Says Nikal Managing Director, Nick Payne, “It will be a pleasure to start work on Altair. The town is enjoying a renaissance and we’re seeing so many positive changes, both commercially and aesthetically.

“This first building at Altair will set the highest of standards for the rest of the scheme. We are delighted that Michael Kennedy and his team at Hillcrest Homes will be delivering this first project.

“Whilst Altair will see continued development of each phase over the next few years, I have no doubt that the keen homeowner and investor will realise that a purchase in the first residential building will be seen as a real ‘coup’,” he added.
