Adrian Taylor Elected Chairman of CECA North West

Adrian Taylor, senior director at Eric Wright Civil Engineering was elected Chairman of CECA NW, the Civil Engineering Contractors’ Association North West at the association’s Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 15 April 2015.

After serving as Vice Chairman for two years, Adrian succeeds Joe Fitzgibbon of Manchester-based Centum. His new Vice Chairman is William Pye of Longridge-based William Pye Ltd, who was also elected at the AGM.

Adrian, who lives in Standish, works on projects across all sectors of civil engineering. He has worked for over 25 years in the industry and has experience of highways, utilities and bridges construction projects.

Upon leaving school, he attended Bircham Newton Training Centre for two years, part time, on a Civil Engineering Technician course, while employed by Kier. After three years with Kier, he joined Henry Boot Construction as a setting out engineer. In 1998, he joined Eric Wright Civil Engineering as a Site Manager and has spent most of his time working on highway and concrete structure projects for the public and private sectors. He was promoted to Director in 2005 and Senior Director in 2013.

Adrian is also a Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and a member of the Chartered Institute of Highways & Transportation.

As Chairman of CECA NW, Adrian will play a central role in part of the UK’s leading civil engineering trade association body that safeguards the interests of over 300 members across eight regions, which, together, carry out an estimated 70-80 per cent of all civil engineering activity in the UK, including transport, energy, communications, waste and water projects.

His focus for the year ahead will be on skills and training, and the need to attract more young people into the industry, to combat growing skills shortages.

Speaking of his appointment Adrian said, ‘CECA’s role is all about addressing the needs of its members, and ensuring contractors that build and maintain the UK’s infrastructure are supported effectively in order to meet their clients’ aspirations. It is an honour to be elected Chairman, and I look forward playing an integral role in the organisation’s activities, particularly focusing on the future of civil engineering, and how we attract young people into the sector.’

Commented Guy Lawson, Director of CECA NW, ‘With his extensive knowledge and experience of the civil engineering sector, Adrian will play a vital role in ensuring that the region’s civil engineering businesses maintain and continues to develop a strong voice in the North West and beyond.
‘His contribution to the work of CECA NW has been invaluable, and I look forward to working with him as the industry climbs out of recession and starts to address the capacity issues that are so important to ensuring projects are delivered safely and effectively for its many clients.’
