Topping-Out Ceremony Marks £9.6m Stockport Homes HQ Milestone

Construction of a new multi-million pound headquarters in Stockport town centre for Stockport Homes is nearing completion.

The four-storey, 54,500 sq ft building with additional basement car park is being delivered by Eric Wright Construction on behalf of Quorum Estates and is expected to complete in June.

Representatives from Eric Wright Construction, Stockport Homes, Quorum Estates and Stockport Council attended a traditional topping out ceremony on site of the former Lamborghini car showroom on Edward Street, which, along with adjacent industrial buildings, has been demolished to pave the way for the new Grade A office facility.

Designed by AEW architects, the new building will consolidate Stockport Homes’ existing services into one modern, efficient location and house almost 400 staff. The new office will make accessing services easier for customers, and provides meeting rooms and community spaces that can facilitate groups and meetings in the heart of the town. The move will take place over a six to eight week period from the end of June 2017.

John Wilson, managing director at Eric Wright Construction, said: “Today marks the team’s achievements since starting on site and is an important milestone towards completion in a few months’ time.

“Tight boundaries and a central location required meticulous planning, co-ordination and execution of work by all those on site to eliminate potential safety-critical issues and prevent any impact on the busy surrounding area.
“The scheme has also created numerous jobs locally with more than 70 per cent of the project team living in the area.”

Paul Cook, director of Quorum, added: “This is an important milestone for the scheme as not only does it mean that the new Stockport Homes HQ will soon be ready for occupation but it also reinforces our continued commitment to the regeneration of Stockport town centre.

“Together with a number of Council led developments, Stockport is beginning to see more private investment in both the town centre and out of town employment sites and we are keen to continue to build on this momentum. By successfully working with the Council on this landmark site, we have demonstrated our ability to deliver a landmark scheme on what was a challenging site in terms of both planning and construction.”

Robin Burman, Chair of the Board at Stockport Homes, concluded: “This exciting development for Stockport Homes is a great opportunity to bring all our team together into one building, allowing for new ways of working to continue delivering excellent services to our customers.”
