Eric Wright Completes Three New Schools

Eric Wright Construction (EWC) has delivered three new education facilities for schools in the region via the Department of Education’s (DfE) major public sector framework.

The schools include St John’s Primary in Stockport and the Queen Elizabeth Studio School in Kirkby Lonsdale, both of which were designed by JM Architects. A third project has also been completed at the Kings Leadership Academy in Bolton.

The Queen Elizabeth Studio School, completed in time for the start of the new term. The 2,166m2 facility delivers a range of state-of-the-art learning spaces, including a 140m2 lecture and drama theatre, working kitchens which will be used by the pupils, IT hubs, digital media studios, art rooms, an engineering suite and 100m2 of flexible working space.

The Studio School, which provides a distinctive, employer-focused educational experience, will cater for 300 pupils, aged 14-19 years. The vocational and academic courses on offer are designed to improve students’ employability and life skills.

At St John’s in Stockport EWC has created a 1,800m2 facility for the primary school. The new single storey SFA primary school will enhance the education provision for young children, replacing the existing building which was deemed unsuitable for refurbishment. EWC will now demolish the original school building to create space for a new, custom-built play area with hard and soft landscaping.

At the Kings Leadership Academy in Bolton, EWC has completed phase 1 of the temporary school for 180 pupils, designed by Pozzoni, which will enable the Trust to continue to operate whilst a new facility is planned.  The works were completed within a 4 month period and the second phase is due to complete in advance of the September 2020 intake.

EWC, which is based in Bamber Bridge near Preston, was appointed to the DfE Low Value Framework in November 2017 and is also underway with new education facilities for the Preston Muslim Girls High School via this framework.

Commenting on the completions James Eager, Framework Director, Eric Wright Construction said: “It’s great to see these new facilities completed and being used by so many pupils. We have been working collaboratively with the DfE, their technical teams and the schools themselves to ensure that we deliver state-of-the-art learning environments which not only enhance the student learning experience but meet the demand for school places across the region.”

In other education contracts EWC is also delivering a £1.14m new school building at Fairfield Road Primary School in Manchester and improvement works at Tonacliffee Primary School in Rochdale.
