Eric Visits Merchant Taylors’ School

Eric Wright Construction have been busy working on the second phase at Merchant Taylors’ School in Crosby when one of the children asked Project Manager Kevin Burgoyne, “Is there really a Mr Wright?”, and when Kevin told them there was they wanted to meet him.

On Thursday 5th June Mr and Mrs Wright kindly offered to visit the school to talk to the children about Eric’s early career in construction and answer their questions.

Three excited year 2 classes met with Mr and Mrs Wright asking a range of questions, such as how Eric started the company, what he studied at school, what gives him the most satisfaction from being a builder, and if he enjoys being a boss!

The children were fascinated in the technical aspects of the building, for example how much it cost, how many schools we build each year, and questions around how big the crane is and if they could learn to drive it.
The pupils were also interested in becoming Engineers; in particular the girls had many questions around how to become an Engineer and if this had always been what Eric had wanted to do.

The Eric Wright Group employs two female Technical Directors one an Engineer and a Construction Project Manager. They are both talented and highly technical and if asked would come to the school to encourage girls to study science and engineering.

Kevin Burgoyne and the site team have been very involved with the school since the project commenced last summer, and have given talks around the building and construction and even participated in school events such as fun runs. The children wished to know if Kevin is our best site manager in our company!

The children, staff and Mr and Mrs Wright all thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Eric commented; “It was wonderful to be invited to the school and to see children so interested in the project and construction in general. We were delighted to answer their questions and hope they enjoyed the visit as much as we did!”
