Eric Wright Construction has picked up two bronze accolades at this year’s National Site Awards, which celebrate the country’s most outstanding building projects.
The awards, hosted by the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CSS), recognised our lead in delivering a state-of-the-art £13.5m leisure centre in Blackburn and the £5m redevelopment of Merchant Taylors’ Primary School,Stanfield in Merseyside.
The Merchant Taylors’ Primary School project delivered a two storey extension, forming new classrooms, specialist teaching rooms and offices to enhance the schools’ facilities for the next generation of pupils. The new Primary School redevelopment is part of the family of Merchant Taylors’ Schools, one of the leading North West independent schools for boys and girls aged 4-18 years.
Headmistress of Merchant Taylors’ Girls’ School, Mrs Louise Robinson, said ‘We are absolutely delighted with the new build. It has provided state of the art facilities for our Primary School boys and girls. Eric Wright were a pleasure to work with and considering most of the build took place during school time there was minimal disruption. In fact Eric Wright very much became part of our Merchants’ family of Schools and took many opportunities during the two year process to educate our children about the topics of engineering, design and construction demonstrating how subjects such as maths and science are very important to these areas.’
Blackburn College Leisure Centre was a joint project between Blackburn with Darwen Council and Blackburn College provides students and residents’ swimming pools but also a larger fitness suite, a dance/ aerobics studio, sauna and steam room and two sports halls.
The awards were presented at two separate ceremonies held this week in Edinburgh and Manchester in recognition of the projects promoting a positive impression of the industry.
A national initiative launched in 1997, the Considerate Constructors Scheme is a voluntary code of practice that maintains the industry’s ethical standards, ensuring all firms remain sensitive to the environment, communities and neighbourhoods in which they work.
As an associate member, Eric Wright Construction complies with vigorous criteria set by the scheme’s board and stands alongside other national contractors that have also been recognised including Costain, Balfour Beatty and Carillion.
