Development work commences on Sawmill Court in Ancoats, East Manchester

Manchester Life Development Company and Eric Wright Construction confirmed the start of foundation works for Sawmill Court, which is bordered by Jersey Street, Murray Street, Bengal Street and Blossom Street in the heart of the Ancoats Conservation Area.

Sawmill Court will provide 158 1,2 & 3 bed rental apartments in Summer 2018, complete with residents’ courtyard and lobby, 80 secure car and 128 secure cycle spaces and club room and gym for residents.

The location gives immediate and easy access to central Manchester’s employment, amenities and transport networks, and the 8 street level commercial units support the emergence of Ancoats into a vibrant destination in its own right.

Eric Wright Construction were chosen as main contractor given their experience in delivering prestigious residential schemes to exceptional quality, and their commitment to regeneration in cities and towns around the North West.

Marty Edelman, Executive Chairman of Manchester Life Development Company, commented: “Sawmill Court is going to be a transformative development for Ancoats. The residents’ courtyard and onsite facilities & services will make this a flagship rental property for the area, and the anticipated commercial tenants will provide exciting new options for Ancoats residents. He further commented: “Eric Wright have a track record of delivering sophisticated urban developments, and we’re looking forward to completing this special development for Ancoats.”

John Wilson, Managing Director at Eric Wright Construction added: “Manchester Life is transforming the areas of Ancoats and New Islington into a fantastic new place for people to live. We are excited to be involved in this scheme which will offer high quality accommodation, playing a big part in the much needed regeneration of the area.”

Sawmill Court is close to other Manchester Life developments, including 28 apartments and 3 townhouses for sale at One Cutting Room Square on Hood Street, and the Grade II* listed mill complex, Murrays’ Mills, which is being sympathetically converted into 124 for sale apartments, in what will be one of Manchester’s most distinctive and desirable residences.

The location combined with the preservation of historic buildings and the elegant design of Manchester Life’s new developments, is fast making Ancoats and New Islington one of Manchester’s most desirable emerging neighbourhoods.
