The following courses are currently available at the Eric Wright Learning Foundation:
Young Apprentice Scheme
The Eric Wright Learning Foundation in partnership with Lancashire Education Business Partnership currently runs a Young Apprentice Scheme. It is designed to enable hard-working and talented 14-16 year olds to combine school with skills and experience in the construction industry.
Topics include:
- An introduction to the Construction Industry
- Exploring Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction
- The use of Science and Maths in Construction
- Investigating Painting and Decorating
- Investigating Trowel Operations

Investigating Carpentry and Joinery
Foundation Level BTEC Certificate
These qualifications have been designed to help learners understand aspects of the construction industry and the skills required to work successfully in the industry.
With unit titles such as producing a timber product, starting work in construction, developing plumbing skills and developing electrical installation skills, learners of all ages will see that the qualification can lead to further study or career opportunities.
Learners will gain the skills, knowledge and understanding through a wide range of practical activities and will also develop their employability skills through working as a team member, meeting deadlines, and communicating with each other.
Level 2 BTEC First Diploma
The BTEC First Diploma in Construction provides a specialist work-related programme of study which gives an understanding of the knowledge and competency needed when entering employment in the construction sector.
The course has been designed in direct relation to the current manpower needs of the industry and gives a broad foundation and introduction to new areas in the construction sector, such as exploring carpentry and joinery, performing brickwork operations or construction drawing techniques.
Year 8 Taster Courses
Taster courses are being offered in June and July with most of the South Ribble schools participating. This gives young people the opportunity to experience a trade in groups which range from 6 - 35.
